Athletes Of The Week

Kinley Kummer

Junior, Brookville Soccer

Brookville junior midfielder Kinley Kummer opened the girls soccer season with a pair of productive performances, helping the Blue Devils start 2-0 and earning Southwestern Buckeye League Athlete of the Week honors. Kummer totaled three goals and two assists for eight points in Brookville’s first two matches. She contributed a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory over Edgewood on Aug. 18, then scored twice and added an assist as the Blue Devils shut out Tecumseh 5-0 two days later. The fast start continues an already productive varsity career for Kummer. She recorded six goals and 11 assists as a freshman in 2024 before finishing with eight goals and five assists as a sophomore last season. Through 33 career matches, Kummer has 17 goals, 18 assists and 52 points. Her eight points through two matches already represent more than one-third of the 21 points she produced during her sophomore season.

Alex Collins

Junior, Carlisle Football

Carlisle junior running back Alex Collins made an impact just about everywhere on the field in the Indians’ season opener. Collins was named the Southwestern Buckeye League Athlete of the Week after helping Carlisle roll past Milton-Union 43-12 on Friday night. Collins rushed 10 times for 125 yards and a touchdown while catching two passes for 98 yards and two more scores. He also returned a kickoff 56 yards and recorded five tackles, including one for loss, on defense. His 223 yards from scrimmage came on just 12 offensive touches. The performance put Collins atop the SWBL in both rushing and receiving after the opening week. His 125 rushing yards lead the league, while his 98 receiving yards also rank first. Carlisle piled up 424 yards of total offense — including 207 rushing — while building a 35-6 halftime lead in the season-opening victory.
